Raisin Spice Squares

A home-kitchen version of raisin spice squares, written step by step so it's easy to follow that comes together with everyday ingredients.

Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. raisins
- 2 c. water
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Method
Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
Heat oven to 350°.
Boil raisins rapidly in 2 cups water in uncovered medium sized saucepan for 10 minutes.
Transfer to large bowl.
Cool to lukewarm.
Stir in egg, then shortening and sugar.
Sift flour and dry ingredients together and add.
Add raisin mixture and nuts.
Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely. Frost with orange icing.
