Ingredients

  • 1 (4 oz.) pkg. German chocolate
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked deep dish pastry shell
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 1/3 c. flaked coconut

Method

  1. In a saucepan melt chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring to mix well.

  2. Remove from heat and gradually blend in milk.

  3. Set aside.

  4. In a bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in eggs and vanilla.

  5. Gradually stir in chocolate mixture. Pour into pastry shell.

  6. Combine pecans and coconut.

  7. Sprinkle over filling.

  8. Bake at 375° for 45 to 50 minutes or until puffed and browned.

  9. Chill; filling will become firm as it cools.
