German Chocolate Pie

A home-kitchen version of german chocolate pie, written step by step so it's easy to follow that's worth the oven time.

Ingredients
- 1 (4 oz.) pkg. German chocolate
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked deep dish pastry shell
- 1/2 c. chopped pecans
- 1 1/3 c. flaked coconut
Method
In a saucepan melt chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring to mix well.
Remove from heat and gradually blend in milk.
Set aside.
In a bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in eggs and vanilla.
Gradually stir in chocolate mixture. Pour into pastry shell.
Combine pecans and coconut.
Sprinkle over filling.
Bake at 375° for 45 to 50 minutes or until puffed and browned.
Chill; filling will become firm as it cools.
