Jan'S Winter Soup

A home-kitchen version of jan's winter soup, written step by step so it's easy to follow built around good chicken and pantry staples.

Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 c. beef or chicken broth
- 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, chopped
- 1 c. diced potatoes
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 1 c. celery, chopped
- 1 c. frozen green beans
- 1 c. dry red wine
- 1/2 tsp. basil
- 1/4 tsp. thyme
- salt and pepper to taste
Method
Saute onions and garlic in butter until onions are tender. Add meat and brown. Drain well. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer at least one hour.
