Mom'S Cake

A home-kitchen version of mom's cake, written step by step so it's easy to follow that's worth the oven time.

Ingredients
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg (whole)
- 2 eggs, separated
- 1 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1/2 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 c. marshmallows (small)
- 1 c. light brown sugar
Method
Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in whole egg and 2 egg yolks.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Combine 2 mixtures; blend.
Grease and flour 13 x 9-inch pan.
Sprinkle nuts, chocolate pieces and marshmallows over batter.
Beat 2 egg whites very stiff.
Fold in brown sugar.
Spread over cake.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes.
