Old Time Molasses Dried Apple Stack Cake

A home-kitchen version of old time molasses dried apple stack cake, written step by step so it's easy to follow that's worth the oven time.

Ingredients
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening (maybe 3/4c.)
- 1 c. sorghum molasses
- 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 egg
- about 5 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. soda in 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
Method
Cream sugar, shortening and molasses.
Add egg and buttermilk. Mix well.
Stir in dry ingredients together with vinegar and soda mixture.
Divide dough into 6 balls.
Press each ball into well-greased 8-inch cake pan.
Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until slightly browned.
Remove from pans while warm and set aside to cool.
