Plain Biscuits

A home-kitchen version of plain biscuits, written step by step so it's easy to follow that's worth the oven time.

Ingredients
- 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
- 3/4 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1/4 c. (approximately) milk
- 1 egg, well beaten
Method
Preheat oven to 400°.
Sift dry ingredients together, then, using a pastry blender or two knives, cut in butter.
Combine milk and egg and slowly add to flour until mixture is wet enough to hold together.
Turn onto a floured board.
Knead, then roll to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden.
Yields about 2 dozen biscuits.
